Respite Care

How can you give better care to your loved one? Let Anglican Care do the caring while you take a break.

Anglican Care knows that caregivers face many challenges and we understand how difficult it can be to have an aged and ill family member at home with you constantly.
It is a demanding task, and it is easy to neglect your own health and well being when you are involved with your loved one’s needs.  Care givers need time off from their care giving responsibilities to relieve stress and prevent burnout.

The basic objective of Anglican Care’s Residential Respite Care is to provide caregivers with temporary substitute care, allowing for relief from the daily responsibilities of caring for an aged spouse, relative or friend.

About our Respite Care

Respite Care is an essential part of the overall support that families may need to keep their relative at home.  Respite Care provides assistance and supervision with personal care, activities, individual support and programs, rehabilitation, hairdressing, welfare and chaplaincy support and therapies within Anglican Care’s Residential Aged Care facilities.

Since not all families have the same needs, respite care should always be geared to individual needs by identifying the type of respite needed and matching the need to the services available.

To be eligible for residential respite care, care-recipients and their carers must be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) as being in need of either residential low or high care.

Most carers are entitled to a total of 63 days per financial year of Respite assistance.  This total includes respite admissions to any commonwealth funded residential aged care service.  However, the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) may approve an extension period if required (conditions apply).

The fees for respite care are according to the Commonwealth Guidelines and you will be advised of these just prior to admission.  A deposit of one weeks fee is available.

Your doctor, family / carer, Day Therapy staff or self, can make a referral to the ACAT.  The assessment approval by ACAT lasts for twelve months.
