NEW WATER PARK PLAYGROUND FOR BOWEN FORESHORE
Joint media release with the Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government and the Federal Labor Candidate for Dawson
A re-elected Gillard Labor Government will partner with the Whitsunday Regional Council to deliver a new water park playground at the recently redeveloped Bowen foreshore.
The announcement was made today by Minister for Resources, Energy and Tourism, Martin Ferguson, and Federal Labor Candidate for Dawson Mike Brunker.
Federal Labor will provide $1.5 million to the Whitsunday Regional Council towards the project, which will deliver a modern water park playground to the foreshore. The playground will feature water jets, cascading water features and quality filtration systems.
“The Gillard Labor Government is committed to supporting local infrastructure that encourages healthy, active communities and adds appeal for visitors,” Martin Ferguson said.
“The new water park will resemble a rock pool and will be suitable for children.
“This is the next stage of the Bowen foreshore redevelopment, building on the success of the first stage which has been very well received by the local community.
“It has brought more people into the area, supporting jobs and local businesses.”
Federal Labor Candidate for Dawson Mike Brunker welcomed the announcement at the Bowen foreshore today.
“This water park will complement the existing infrastructure the Council has delivered to the foreshore,” Mr Brunker said.
“It will be an excellent addition for children and families and is close to the new skate park, BBQ facilities and amenities.”
The funding will build on Federal Labor’s record investment in Dawson, including more than $5.5 million to fix dangerous local road black spots and provide boom gates to rail crossings, as well as more than $17 million to upgrade 20 local community and sporting facilities across the region.
Funding for this project will be fully offset over the forward estimates, consistent with the Gillard Labor Government’s commitment to return the budget to surplus in 2013, three years ahead of schedule.
