PACKING GUIDE
This suggestion list is designed to assist you with packing and preparing your household goods for removal.
Packing – general
Start well in advance of the moving day
-
Only use specialised removal cartons available from Britz
-
Start packing items that aren’t used much first, items in garages and storage areas
-
Best to pack one room at a time to assist you when unpacking
-
Allocate a room in the house to store packed cartons
-
Label each box with the room they came from & general description of the contents of carton eg: Lounge room – glassware etc
-
Maximum weight for a standard removal carton (62cm x 44cm x 42cm) is 25kg & for a book carton (45cm x 31cm x 35cm) is 20kg
Packing – glassware & crockery
Best to position a table or bench at waist height near the area you are packing so you don’t have to carry the glassware and/or crockery.
-
Spread butchers paper out on the bench and start with the heavier items.
-
Put 8 to 12cm of crushed paper in the bottom of your carton and start packing the box with the heavier items.
-
Plates and dishes should be wrapped in groups of 4 with 2 sheets of paper between each plate and packed on their ends.
-
Glasses, mugs and cups should be wrapped up like fish & chips and packed standing upright. If you have a lot of glasses, it might be best to wrap 2 at a time but use paper between them.
-
Only pack to half way up the carton and fill the rest with plastics or linen. This will distribute the weight evenly throughout the heavier cartons.
-
Ornaments need plenty of paper and are best packed upright in the carton.
-
Pictures if they fit can be packed down either side of a standard removal carton after being wrapped in 2 sheets of paper. If they are larger use the picture cartons available.
Packing – miscellaneous
Books, CD’s, DVD’s, video’s and files are best packed into book cartons as well as tools and food from the pantry
-
Linen, clothing and any other items should be packed into standard cartons.
-
Hanging clothes can be packed into Porta Robes as well as long item that don’t fit in standard cartons.
