Jobs Fund Project
This project is supported by funding from the Australian Government.
In December 2009 Hunter Wetlands receieved a grant under the Jobs Fund stream of funding to repair paths, bridges, boardwalks, aging infrastructure to employ 5 trainee in the landcare and marketing areas (two of whom were to be indigenous employees), complete the Bush tucker Garden and to build a series of interpretation centres around the site.
The following photos display our progress in these areas.
New Paths
Thanks to the jobs fund grant that we successfully acquired, we have been able to purchase materials to further the development of rylite paths throughout the site. All of the path edging will be done with a recycled plastic profile material that contains numerous types of recycled plastic materials including printer cartridges and milk bottles, The best part of using this product is that it is designed to be used outside and its durability and weather resistance far exceeds conventional timbers.

New Water tanks and Solar hot water systems
Thanks to another grant that has been successfully acquired from the NSW government, We have been able to purchase brand new water tanks including a 10,000L tank for water storage onsite. We have also installed solar powered water heaters at our visitor centre, thereby further reducing the effect that we have on our environment.

Outdoor education and events centre
With the building of this new facility, it will enable the centre and the public to enjoy stunning view over water ribbon pond and provide the perfect place to hold your wedding or event in the great outdoors. This facility will also serve a great purpose for many school group’s that visit the wetlands by getting them out of the classroom and into the great unknown but still providing a place for education.
