Benefits of being a Hunter Wetlands Centre regular donor and giving monthly through automatic deduction:

  • Giving by a regular gift is easier because you don’t have to worry about stamps, mailing the letters and phone calls
  • Your regular gifts help with getting things done. We can start planned projects earlier because we know the money will come in for their on-going funding which means we can focus on our key areas of conservation and education.
  • Regular giving helps with long term planning because we can rely on the income in the future
  • More can be done with your gift because regular gifts keep our administration and fundraising costs to a minimum

Why save our Wetlands?

  • The Hunter Wetlands is home to over 250 species of wildlife. The onsite ponds at HWCA have developed into viable ecosystems that regularly support breeding waterbirds, including ducks, swans, grebes, pelicans and magpie geese.
  • About 84% of plants, 83% of mammals, and 45% of birds are endemic-that is, they are only found in Australia.  The HWCA supports one of the few egret breeding colonies in the area.
  • Human activities have changed the landscape and natural habitats.  This has put hundreds of our unique species at risk, such as the long-necked tortoise which is also found on site at the Hunter Wetlands.
  • When one habitat or species is affected by human behaviour, the entire circle of life can be altered without our knowledge.  Biodiversity is the idea that species of plants and animals rely on each other to survive and flourish, and HWCA want to ensure the rich biodiversity of this precious wetlands for future generations.

Why donate to Hunter Wetlands Centre?

  • Hunter Wetlands Centre is a non-profit organisation that is a hub of leading practice in Wetlands conservation, education, tourism and management.
  • At Hunter Wetlands Centre Australia we focus our strategic and business plans on four key components: Wetlands Conservation and Management, Education, Tourism and Recreation and Governance.
  • Hunter Wetlands Centre has a lot to be proud of. The site has been transformed from a former dumpsite and football fields into a wetlands of international significance under the Ramsar convention. With a dedicated group of over 160 volunteers the site has undergone remarkable transformation to become a “Haven for Wildlife and People” and a destination all can enjoy.
  • The site is recognised as precious breeding ground for the Since 1981, the Hunter Wetlands Centre has been an important site for a breeding colony of four Egret species. The Lower Hunter region is a staging place for the southern migration of Cattle Egrets from Queensland and northern New South Wales colonies.
  • A successful application for protection under the Ramsar Convention was announced in November 2002.  This means our wetlands are listed as internationally significant under the Ramsar Convention-an international treaty for the protection and wise use of Wetlands.

The Hunter Wetlands Centre is located on 45 hectares featuring diverse and vibrant local species of plants and wildlife.   Tax deductible donations from the community are a vital part of this conservation effort.  They enable the purchase and ongoing management of reserves and help support our partnerships such as with the Australian Plant Society.
  • Your donation could help the Hunter Wetlands Centre to work towards their future goals.  Enhancing ecological character and values identified under the Ramsar listing, improved access to technical knowledge and wetland research to promote best practice in wetland management, and expanding rehabilitation showcase to include reintroduction of animals where feasible are just a few of the ways your gift could go towards helping the community.
  • Hunter Wetlands Centre aims to increase understanding and appreciation for wetlands values throughout the community and demonstrate and promote wetland education tools on and off the site to improve wetland conservation via their education centre.
  • Your donation could help to identify and develop innovative, high quality and sustainable recreation and tourism opportunities, as well as develop a financial basis for growth and adapt governance to meet future opportunities.

If you’d like to donate by mail please use our printable Donations and Gifts Form or donate online by Credit Card via our Online Donations Page.  Whatever and however you give, you will be helping to protect Australia’s unique plants and animals and their habitats.
